Kai Montagu has signed a new contract with Raith Rovers, extending his stay at Stark's Park until the summer of 2029. The 20-year-old midfielder's fresh terms were confirmed by the club on Tuesday, securing a key young talent as the team pushes for promotion from the Scottish Championship.

Montagu expressed his delight at the deal, which comes with Raith sitting second in the table, just two points behind leaders Stenhousemuir. "I’m really enjoying my football at the moment, so when the offer came up I was desperate to get it done," he said. The player, now in his third season with the Rovers, has started all 14 competitive fixtures this term and has become a mainstay under manager Dougie Imrie.

Imrie's praise and guidance

Manager Dougie Imrie praised the extension as well deserved. He told the player over the summer to focus on getting stronger and working in the gym, advice which has clearly been heeded. Imrie noted Montagu's good attributes, including his strength, pace, and passing ability, but added he wants to see more goals and assists from the midfielder. "He is listening, which is the main thing," Imrie said, emphasising the player's commitment to improvement.

The manager also pointed to the club's model of developing young talent, referencing players like Paul Nsio and Calum Adamson. He hopes Montagu will continue to progress and eventually secure a move that benefits both the player and the club financially, a pathway supported by current Scottish compensation rules that offer protection for Raith.

A settled and important figure

Since joining the club in 2024, Montagu has made 68 appearances and scored five goals. His first two strikes came in a 3-1 win over Airdrieonians last season, and he was part of the side that lifted the KDM Evolution Trophy in 2026. He stated he is very settled in Kirkcaldy and is keen to repay the faith shown in him. Raith's strong start to the campaign, which includes a 2-0 victory over Queen's Park last weekend, provides an exciting platform.

Montagu's new deal is a significant piece of business for Raith Rovers as they prepare for a key away match against league leaders Stenhousemuir on 17 October.
