Raith Rovers midfielder Charlie Telfer will be out of action for three months after suffering a severe hamstring tear in training.

The 31-year-old, who joined the club on a two-year deal this summer, sustained the injury last Wednesday. It involves a tear in three separate places, ruling him out of a significant portion of the season.

Manager Dougie Imrie, who brought Telfer to Stark's Park, confirmed the timescale and expressed his disappointment at losing a player who had made a strong start. Telfer had featured nine times across the Premier Sports Cup and league campaign, scoring once and providing an assist.

"Charlie getting this injury is difficult for me because he has been excellent since he's come in," Imrie said. "We just need to rally around Charlie and hopefully he's back as quick as he can."

The news comes as a particular frustration as the club's injury situation had been improving. Striker George Oakley marked his return with a double in the 4-0 league win over Arbroath last Saturday, a result that kept Raith second in the Championship with 13 points from six games.

Imrie also provided updates on other players, stating that Lewis Vaughan and Ross Millen are expected to be available again within a couple of weeks. Their returns will help offset the loss of Telfer in midfield.

Raith's next match is a home fixture against Arbroath on January 2nd, a rematch of their recent comprehensive victory. The team will look to maintain their strong early-season form, which has seen them score 11 goals while conceding only three, as they aim to close the three-point gap to leaders Stenhousemuir.
