Former Raith Rovers youth player Dylan Corr has retired from professional football at the age of 21 due to persistent knee injuries. The defender required three surgeries in the last four years and faced the prospect of a fourth operation, forcing him to end his career.
Corr came through the Celtic academy before moving to Morton and then spending time with Raith Rovers' development squad. He most recently played for Kelty Hearts this season, making five appearances and featuring in every minute of their Premier Sports Cup campaign. He was also a Scotland youth international.
"For as long as I can remember, all I have wanted to do is play football," Corr said. He added that he would miss the routine of matchdays but was looking ahead. "I will miss that Saturday feeling of waking up to go kick a ball about, but I guess life can throw mad things at you and I look forward to seeing what's next."
The news highlights the physical toll the game can take on young players, even at the lower levels of Scottish football. Corr's decision was based on long-term health concerns for his knee.
Raith Rovers, where Corr once developed, are currently enjoying a strong season. They sit second in the Scottish Championship with 14 points from seven games, having won four, drawn two and lost one. Their recent form reads three wins, one draw and one defeat from the last five outings.
Their next challenge is a home fixture against fifth-placed Livingston this Friday. The full schedule is available on the club's fixtures page. The first team's continued success provides a stark contrast to the premature end of a promising career like Corr's.
